New food addiction

A couple of months ago I found the most amazing indulgence at Rolling Oats market, Vegan Tempeh Curry Salad. I was immediately obsessed, and, of course, they immediately stopped making it. I came pretty darn close to recreating it today... it might even be better. So, give it a try and let me know what you think.

1 8oz block tempeh (steamed or boiled 10minutes then cool)
1 small gala apple, diced
1/4 yellow onion, diced (could also sub green onions)
2 small carrots, peeled and diced
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup veganaise
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp dijon mustard
2 tsp curry powder (I used yellow)
salt and pepper to taste

Mix the veganaise and spices, then combine with remaining ingredients.

I can't wait to wear clothes again!

Summer Summer I am soo over you! Summer is OVER!! well not really, because we live in the land of summer, but I am excited about getting a little break from the heat, even if its after the sun goes down.

And I can't wait to wear all my clothes again. The other day I was thinking as most of us do. "I have nothing to wear"..... but then I realized that its because its too hot to wear jeans, let alone anything other than cotton. Plus,  I love Fall so much that most of my clothes are fall-ish. Vintage fabric is great, but that Dacron does not breathe, to say the least! I am jonesing to wear my mad men dresses!! I have the most gorgeous gold, orange and navy number that is short sleeved, but has a high collar and is .... you guessed it, 100% double knit Dacron polyester. (pics to follow) Not to mention, cardigans, velvet blazers and PANTS! Oh, I love pants. Welcome fall, and your days of 78 degree weather !!

Feather Extensions are cruel

The first time I saw feather extensions, I thought they were beautiful! At the time, we did not offer extensions as a service in my salon, so I didn't do much investigation on the topic. More and more people started asking me where they could get them, and at the same time we started training on offering extension services in the salon. So, I googled and googled my way through the world of feather hair extensions. The shocking truth is that the birds are killed for these feathers!! From the Seattle Times:
I couldn't believe this! I called my extension company (who claim they are 'eco-friendly'') and they confirmed this fact! Not only is this the only reason these roosters are bred, but they do not use the flesh for anything - animal feed, etc. NOTHING! Apparently our hunger for trends is causing a shortage of roosters, the farm mentioned above cannot keep up with demand.
Whiting Farms is harvesting about 1,500 birds a week for their feathers and still can't keep up with its current orders, said owner and founder Tom Whiting, a poultry geneticist. The company has stopped taking on new accounts.

We at the Disco Dolls Studio will be offering faux feather extensions. You can get the same look, without the killing! Hair is colored to look like the popular feathers. Look for these next month!!

new obsession

Swedish! As part of my continuing obsession with all things Swedish, I present Sachajuan! I saw the ocean mist online, and had to know about this brand. I contacted Woodley and Bunny and they sent us a package with tons of lovely samples. I am so impressed with all aspects of this line. The aroma is a beautiful, clean, slightly herbaceous scent, and the feel is weightless! Even after layering the volume foam, ocean mist and shine serum in some seriously fine hair, the hair had bounce and shine. I predict you will be seeing some Sachajuan at the Disco Dolls Studio this fall

Screen printing

It's been a while since we've done some screen printing, and tomorrow is the day! We finally cleared enough room in the garage so that we can set everything up. More Grace Jones and Disco Dolls logo patterns, Leigh Anne is going to spruce them up, and they should be on the shelf next week!

The revolution of the front desk

Left over from jonny balz's batchelor pad, this 90s bar needed a serious update. We'd already tried to sell it on craigs list to no sucess, and to be honest, there is something great about it. In a drunken fit, Bill came up with the decoupage logo idea and we added german glass glitter from Grandmother to create a mirror ball effect, then 60+ coats of poly later....
Gorgeous!!
